Resurgence Worship conference

Well, here we are at Mars Hill. The Workshop on songwriting is about to start, so I’m typing quietly. We attended a service yesterday at the West Seattle campus, and I must say that it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. We did see Mark Driscoll preach live from that campus though. The church building itself was about the same size and shape as a church that I used to attend in los angeles when I was young. a tall old building with a high balconey and soaring “a-frame” ceilings. They jumped straight from the worship in to the message (which I am not at all used to, at Watermark we have a time set apart between the worship and the message for people to hang out and be social, I tend to see this as the most important part of our service because of the communal aspect of it.).
The music was descent, kind of somber. Mostly redone hymns. What I liked about it was the original art that graced the screens as the lyrics changed.
As for the message, it was pretty good. I don’t really ever agree with everything that everyone says, and this was no exception.
all in all, it was a great experience.

The city itself is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. This morning we strolled down the little shop lined streets in search of a place to eat breakfast, all we found was about 30 coffee shops in a 2 mile stretch. We ended up wandering into a little bread shop where we had some of the most amazing bread we’ve ever had, as well as some good coffee. I didn’t really realie how bad the coffee in tampa was until we got here. There is literally no bad coffee in this whole city. Everywhere we go, the latte’s and the cappucinos are the best we’ve had. Yesterday we found a little place called “uptown espresso”, it was even better than when we visited “the first ever starbucks” the day before. My latte had a hint of mocha and an orange peel floating on the foam, amazing!
I was going to post some pictures of this amazing city, but macs don’t have any ports for memory cards, so you’ll have to wait.
thats all.

  • I am definitely jealous.

Also, we are an Acts 29 regional conference here next month- wish you and Sarah could be here!
